Tortuguero is an incredibly special area in Costa Rica. Wild, remote, and with many water canals that allow for plenty of spectacular wildlife and amazing vegetation.
Taking a guided hike is the best way to see the wide array up close. Your naturalist guild will pick you up* and shortly after, your 2-hour tour will begin on trails and pathways. With a keen eye and trained ears, your guides have the experience to point out interesting birds, animals, insects, and plant life. They have a telescope ready to offer you close-up views and photos.
Some of the animals living in the area include river otters, manatees, spider and howler monkeys, ocelots, anteaters, snapping turtles, crocodiles, and sloths, just to name a few. There are many types of lizards, and this is a bird lover’s paradise too.
If you are up for an adventure, a night jungle tour is for you because 80% of the wildlife in the jungle is active at night. You will not believe the sounds that are all around you.
