Monteverde Cloud Forest reserve is 728 hectares and was opened to the public in 1975. Home of the Tropical Science Center, this area has four distinct “life zones”. There are over 755 species of trees, over 500 types of orchids, the most on Earth in one area. It is also home to 157 different types of birds, 53 types of frogs, 71 types of snakes, 3 types of monkeys, and Sloths as well as wild jungle cats and an amazing array of insects. The hiking trails are approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles).

The Monteverde area of Costa Rica is high up in a cloud forest and home to a specular array of animal and plant life.

Your guild will pick you up at your lodging and drive you to the reserve where your wonderful nature experience will begin. Stop to see beautiful plants, trees that are hundreds of year old, and stunning views. Learn about the history of the Monteverde area. Keep your eyes open and discover the abundant birdlife including the Quetzal. Your guides know that calls and will help with photos. You may be lucky and see sloths, monkeys, tapirs, coatis, and much, much more.
